    Fanny Crosby wrote this song on the spot when her friend, Phoebe Knapp, played a melody she'd composed on the piano. Fanny clapped her hands and exclaimed, "Why that says, 'Blessed Assurance!'" And she quickly composed the words for the verses and chorus for this song.

    A song quite popular at Catholic masses, Here I Am, Lord is a sacred song composed by Dan Schutte in the late 1700s. It was at this time that the Catholic church began using vernacular hymns in masses. The refrain offers powerful lyrics: Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

    What a Friend We Have in Jesus was originally written by Joseph M. Scriven in the mid-1800s as a poem. The tune was later composed by Charles Crozat Converse. Just a Closer Walk with Thee was one of the best-known gospel songs throughout the twentieth century, yet little is known about it's origin and development.
